Vintage Chinese Pottery Figurine 12 Parrot Parakeet Bird
This vintage Chinese pottery figurine pair features two approx 12 parrot parakeet bird design, handpainted in multicolor porcelain. Originating from China during the Qing Dynasty Era/Chinese Republic Period, these figurines capture the essence of animal theme with intricate details. The handpainted craftsmanship and color vibrancy add a unique and beautiful artistry to these striking birds, making it a charming addition to any collector’s display of Asian antiques. Please see pictures as they are part of item description. The textures of the trees is rough and will need A LOT of patience and gentle hands during cleaning. Not my expertise! The bark of the tree being artisinally crafted and painted with tone after tone. They are a work of art. When I have inspected /photographed, I see no signs chipping or damage. I expect there to be flaws in something from the 1930’s, but it is quite rare to find a pair in this great condition and still together. These truly are special and I would hate for them to get damaged in transit and have zero recourse. Message me directly to discuss those options. Thanks for checking this listing out!

Large Stangle Bird Pottery Flying Mallard Duck Bird 3443 Ceramic Figurine
The Large Stangle Bird Pottery Flying Mallard Duck Bird 3443 Ceramic Figurine is a beautifully crafted handmade porcelain figurine of a mallard duck in flight. In 1939, the Stangl art pottery began producing a series of bird figurines modeled after illustrations from the book titled “Birds of America” by John James Audubon printed between 1827 and 1838. This book contains approximately 435 life-size paintings of indigenous birds of America. Stangl began marketing these figurines at the start of World War II where they became an instant success due to the fact that European and Japanese porcelains were basically not available for export. After the war ended, the popularity waned as European and Japanese factories came online producing extremely fine figurines, thus the factory discontinued the Stangl Birds line in 1955. During their run, each example was hand-painted.

Width: 7.5 inches. These figurines are in pristine condition. This is a Romantic Courtship Staffordshire flatback, ca. They are not linked to a specific theatrical or commemorative subject, but rather fall into the generic pastoral lovers tradition, one of the most collected and classic Staffordshire themes. These are painted on all sides. They have a dog at their side and she is holding a bird up near her face. My love of Staffordshire. Over four decades ago, my deep-rooted passion for collecting Staffordshire figures took hold, sparking the inception of a treasured collection boasting over 250 exquisite pieces. These remarkable figures, meticulously crafted in England, in the late 1700s and early 1800s, exude a distinct charm and clarity attributed to being painted predominantly by children. This enduring childlike energy embedded in each piece continues to enchant enthusiasts and collectors alike, transcending generations with its timeless appeal. How to tell if a piece is an original or a reproduction. To discern an original from a reproduction, scrutinize the base for a small hole, indicative of steam venting during the firing process. The presence of a hole no larger than a pinhole signifies authenticity. Some genuine figures may feature a unique “spill” design as an alternative to a steam hole for ventilation. Authentic pieces exhibit a pristine glaze, devoid of any artificial aging effects or dirt-like appearance. In certain cases, the steam hole may be discreetly located at the back of the figure, further solidifying its authenticity. Reproductions can be identified by a larger hole size, typically resembling a dime or larger. Lack of a steam hole or spill design may indicate a reproduction attempting to mimic an original. Artificially aged or dirty glaze is a common characteristic of reproduction Staffordshire figures. Additional identifying features in Staffordshire. When examining the base of a Staffordshire figure, ensure that the glaze extends uniformly around the edges, a hallmark of authenticity. Some original pieces may feature the steam hole discreetly placed at the back, adding an element of intrigue to their design. The British tradition of adoring pairs is reflected in the high desirability of matching figures. Certain pieces narrate captivating stories, such as a prince depicted hunting with a deer companion hanging beside him in the figure. I feel that the enduring allure of Staffordshire figures transcends more than just aesthetics, as they all encapsulate a wonderful historical legacy and unparalleled craftsmanship that has withstood the test of time. By mastering the subtle nuances that distinguish originals from replicas, you can deepen the appreciation for these enduring treasures. As a dedicated connoisseur with a profound love for Staffordshire figurines.
