Antique Japanese Kutani Porcelain Pottery Bird Statue Lamp, Meiji Period 19th C

The bird is made out of a thick vividly colored high quality enamel glaze. The feathers are painted realistically and have gilded details. His bird is exceptionally detailed compared to most Kutani porcelain birds of the same age. The new owner should be proud to own a one of a kind Kutani porcelain bird lamp. This is a large and heavy lamp. Overall, the porcelain bird lamp is in. This is a pre-owned antique item, therefore, some gilt is fading and there are light scratches on the porcelain. The lamp is working. There are no lampshades nor. Included in the sale. The porcelain lamp shaft (for lack of a better word) was added to the porcelain bird in the style of the tree stump. Please see the photos for the described conditions. Bird Height: 11 1/2 (29.21 cm) from porcelain base to head. Total Lamp Height: 25 1/4 (64.13cm) from wood base to finial. Antique 19th century Chinese export porcelain chickens standing on top of the rocks. Relief detail emphasizes the feathers. The comb and the lobe in flat red. The modeling is very successful. Measures about 12,20 (31cm) high. Guangxu periode 1875 1908, or maybe younger. Exceptional quality and detail including relief molded feathers, piercing eyes and sharp beak. In very good condition, only some very light wear at the beak. Look at the pictures these will tell much more than my description. An absolute must for collectors. Marcel Gibrat (Pictured working on a Greek Kylyx in the 1970s), my grandfather, was a Restorer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan and later owned a Madison Avenue Restoration Studio and Art Gallery one block from the Guggenheim Museum. From the 1960s to 1990s. Marcel was undoubtedly a genius and was, as far as I know, the only Restorer for the Met without a PhD. In fact he had a sixth grade education. He was also a talented painter. Im Max Lewin the curator of what remains of Marcels extensive art collection, comprising ancient, tribal, Asian and European art. I have grown up around art and. I worked with Marcel summers and in college. Marcel was an unquestioned expert in antiquities and all items in the collection from the ancient world are guaranteed to be authentic. Marcel also had a particular affinity for African tribal art, and while dating such items is problematic, he absolutely had impeccable taste. Some of his opinions on provenance of tribal items have been challenged. There are also Asian items of various quality, and many fine and genuine items from primitive cultures including relatively contemporary (a few hundred years old) and both neolithic and upper paleolithic items.
