This Royal Crown Derby “Fairy Wren” bone china figurine is quite a find! The figurine depicts a pair of Fairy Wrens sitting on a tree stump adorned with delicate leaves and flowers. Fairy Wrens are Australasian birds, and the coloring on this pair seems to be that of the “Superb Fairy Wren, ” which is quite a splendid feathered fellow indeed! The figurine has been discontinued, but was manufactured for some time, which gives rise to quite a variety of both the handpainted colors and designs of the birds (beaks, eyes, shades of blue, tail coloration for instance), and the applied flowers and vegetation that have variously adorned the branch over the years. The figurine stands 6 1/2 inches tall, and is 3 1/4 inches wide and 4 1/4 inches deep. It is in very good condition for being 55 years old and having such a number of extremely delicate components just look at those tiny feet, delicate legs and shiny claws!! However, a few spots need pointing out: the very tip of the beak of the lower bird has had a tiny chip in the paint at the tip repaired, which can be seen in the photo above. It’s quite hard to make out, but it’s there. Also, there is some infinitesimal chipping at the tips of the greenery that surrounds the small flower bud, and at the base of the open yellow flower. Again, see photos above. A beautiful and vibrant addition to your collection of fine bird figurines, and one of the more attractive Royal Crown Derby “Fair Wren” figurines that I’ve seen!
