Please let us know if you have any questions. Large One of a Kind Porcelain Fine Art Vulture Committee Sculpture by Jean Schmitt MFA. Created after intense research and study by the artist and molded in life size dimensions. 22.5″ x 11.5″ x 15. Beautifully executed in the following manner. Three vulture poses were molded out of plasticine and molds were taken. Porcelain slabs are pressed into the molds and slight variations are made in. The turn of the head. Other variations happen in firing. The final stages were. Produced at the Kansas City Art Institute Ceramic Studios using their Blauu. Additional notes from the artist. The Committee, Porcelain Vultures. A group of vultures is called a committee. I observed this committee of black vultures on a beach in Ecuador. Some fed and some stood watch. They changed roles throughout the feeding session. I recorded them with video and patterned the poses from these birds. Vultures are natures recyclers, mediators between earth and sky, death and new energy. Although the birds are often despised or misunderstood, by making them out of precious porcelain I hope to encourage another way to appreciate them. Because porcelain goes through such a dynamic flux process at high temperature, it is rarely used for sculptures of this size. This flux has imbued each vulture with very unique and individual characteristics. Although there are 20 in the series, no two are alike and each is life-like (some even have a little attitude). They make good company and arrange very well into subcommittees of three or more. For more great items like this!
