The Brand: The top arch reads “Hand Painted / Lenwile China”. “Lenwile” was a specific trade name used by Ardalt, Inc. An American import company based in New York City. They contracted artisans overseas to manufacture giftware, tea sets, and porcelain figurines primarily for the American market. The Logo: The central stylized red monogram features the double-A (“AA”) arches representing Ardalt. The Era (“Occupied Japan”): The bottom of the red stamp explicitly reads “Occupied Japan”. This provides a highly specific historical timeline. This piece was manufactured immediately following World War II between 1945 and April 1952, during the post-war Allied occupation of Japan. Items exported from the country during this window were required by law to bear this stamp. The Catalog Number: The hand-stamped red number 6355 at the bottom is a specific catalog SKU or mold number used by the importer to track this particular design or shape. Historically, this specific model number is associated with hand-painted porcelain bird figurines (such as a Tomtit or Goldfinch) produced by the company.
