Was appointed as Beswick’s first official Chief Modeler in 1939. His arrival completely revolutionized the company’s direction. Gredington possessed an extraordinary talent for replicating the exact anatomy, muscle definition, and lively characteristics of animals. He is most celebrated for creating Beswick’s highly sought-after, anatomically precise champion horse and dog series, alongside beloved bird sculptures like these Turtle Doves. His naturalistic sculpting style set a gold standard for British pottery throughout the mid-20th century. About the Company: John Beswick Ltd. Founded in 1894 by James Wright Beswick and his sons in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. Originally focused on functional tableware and traditional earthenware. By the 1930s, the company shifted focus to high-quality ceramic animal figurines, which skyrocketed them to global fame among collectors. Beswick became world-renowned for its brilliant gloss glazes and collaborations with major pop-culture properties, notably being the first factory to license and produce Beatrix Potter figurines starting in 1948. The company was eventually bought out by Royal Doulton in 1969, and the historic Gold Street factory closed its doors permanently in 2002, making authentic mid-century pieces like your figurine highly collectible historical artifacts.
