An outstanding porcelain figurine of a parrot by a little known company, Behscherzer, from Bavaria, founded in 1880. The company has a confusing history, undergoing name changes that convolute its history, yet the quality of the work is undeniable. This porcelain parrot measures an impressive 12 1/4″ tall by 8 1/2″ wide. Its feathers are formed in relief, decorated in several jewel-like colors, with each feather outlined in gold, as are the eyes, beak and base. This piece is truly a work of art. Hallmarked under the base, with impressed model number 48. No chips, cracks, repairs or restorations. Please enlarge and examine all photos carefully as they are considered part of the description. I have researched this bird and have seen only a few of examples of bird statues / figurines and believe it to be extremely rare. My research indicates that Zeh, Scherzer & Co. Statues are fairly scarce to begin with in comparison to their more commonly found housewares. This is a beautifully painted and finely executed statue by the company that I found during my research. It is an absolutely beautiful piece worthy of any antique porcelain collection. The wording under the green mark reads BEHSCHERZER. This Bird is in very good condition there are no cracks or chips that I can find. There is some wear on the bottom consistent with a well cared for piece of this age.
