This is a large & wonderfully hand painted porcelain figurine of a grouse or some other large European game bird. It’s a whopping 13 -1/4″ high approximately, It’s about 8 -1/2″ across the front, & about 11 -1/2 [deep] overall front to back. It has an oval stamped mark inside the base reading MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA , with AMPHORA inside the center. I’ve pictured it as best I can. I’ve found this mark to be that of the TURN TEPLITZ BOHEMIA maker RIESSNER, my book stating that it wasTmovany, Czechoslovakia. It was likely made between 1918 & 1939. The detailing is just gorgeous, & it’s quite impressive. It came from the estate of a nationally known brewing family. It has gorgeous gloss & only has a couple of issues I can see. One is when running your hand over the top edge of the tail feathers, the thinner ones are a bit rough at the very top. Also, there is a firing hole, so the piece doesn’t explode in the kiln, at the top white feather section, behind the brown feathers. It’s camouflaged quite well, but can be seen when looking closely at the first picture & the 6th one, looking at it dead on. Second, the only true damage I can see is a teenie nip at the base.
